The Famuan wins awards at HBCU Student News Conference


The Famuan student newspaper won big at the Annual HBCU National Student News Media Conference and Career Fair. The newspaper won nine awards at the ceremony held in Jackson, Miss on Saturday.

The awards included Best Sports Feature Story, Best Editorial/Opinions Section, Best Informational Graphic or News Art/Illustration, Best Spot News Story, Best Arts and Entertainment Criticism and Best Student Newspaper.

The Famuan also received third place in Best Sports News or Game Story, third place for best Online Site and second place for Best Headline Writing.

“This shows we are at the forefront of journalism and news media among HBCUs,” said Erica Butler, a senior broadcast journalism student from Maryland and Editor-in-chief for The Famuan.

The event was sponsored by the Black College Communication Association was held at Jackson State University this weekend. Student journalists from Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the nation attended the conference.
