CIAA – Thursday Fabruary 26, 2009

It is apparent to me that we arrived on the right day, Thursday, if we wanted to get the lay of the land here in Charlotte. Having never been here, and opting out of the $14/day gps upcharge at the car rental agency this is necessary. Tonight after a reasonable day of “normal” traffic, the city began showing signs of the CIAA traffic that will be in FULL SWING tomorrow.

Notable happenings today:

  • “Hotel Lobby Envy”  – This term was mentioned a couple times today in relation to our experience visiting the Westin hotel by the Convention Center.  You see we planned our visit basically last minute, so we’re staying in a hotel out by the old Hornets Coliseum.  Nice place, but not the Westin.  What would you do? Me, I’d pull up a stool at the bar in the Westin and camp out! LOL  That’s JUST what we did.  While we were there I struck up a conversation with a nice lady sporting a Fayetteville State shirt.  I told her what we do (big up BroncoRoundup.com) and lo and behold, she is the Chancellor’s wife!  Good connects.
  • The Ford Fan Experience  – The Convention center has been stocked with attractions and is prepared to host thousands of Alumni.  Today, the crowd was light so I got the chance to try all the attractions and see the sites. First off Funk Master Flex has a FLEET of customized vehicles on the floor.  Mustangs, a Grand Torino (shouts to Clint Eastwood), and my favorite the Ford Flex! (don’t sleep. I REALLY like this vehicle.  Note to Ford, wrap it and drop it at my house).

  • There are a couple pretty cool activities happening in the Fan Experience.  One that we had fun with was the Scratch DJ Lessons.  Here you can play around with all types of DJ and production equipment.  Ali did his best to channel Jazzy Jeff in ’86 but … eh.

More to come. Stay tuned.
