My Name is… Candace Jackson

The reason you are reading about me is… Because I wanna be like Be Moore and when he asked me to talk, I talked.  But also because I am principal of CJAM Consulting, LLC, a business development and project management firm dedicated to the nonprofit arts and culture sectors.

I attended… Howard University where I received a BFA in Theater Arts and Business Administration; and Yale School of Drama where I received an MFA in Theater Management

Right now I’m working on… a number of projects in New York and two other cities, principal among which is the development of new multimedia cultural arts center in Harlem, the Dwyer Cultural Center. I’m also working on useful strategies to grow my business, in an honest, organic way.

But if I wasn’t, I’d be… on a Beach in Brazil, with my family in Florida, and thinking of ways to grow my business or start a new venture, in an honest, organic way.

One thing I do every day is… smile and affirm that my life is rich beyond measure.  Though, I don’t always remember the sentiment by the end of the day.  So I start all over the next day.

I can’t stand when people… make commitments, but fail to follow-through.

But I love it when people… anticipate the next step, and act!

If you happen to run into me in the street… and I know you?  I’ll give a big hug and smile and say “it’s sooo good to see you” and usually mean it.  If I don’t know you?  Probably smile/ or not.

The Best piece of advice I ever received was… Too much to name here, but good ones are – “Suffer fools lightly” and “If you can manage people, you can do just about anything”.

If I had to coin it, my message would be… I am because we are.  (is that too esoteric?) Otherwise, I believe in a life and in works worth examination.  Work and build so that you can be gratified in the journey, and by the example you’ve followed and that you’ve created.

My future plans and projects include… more more and more work for arts organizations throughout the country.  International alliances focused on arts development.  Real estate ventures, and somehow connecting cultural development with housing development.

Big Ups to..
. B. Moore, Howard University, my sister Angela, and my line sisters of Authentic 35 who are some of the most awe-inspiring people I’ve ever met.
