Mayor Kasim Reed will brief reporters Wednesday morning to discuss the city’s plans for handling the return of one of Atlanta’s most renowned street parties.

It appears Freaknic is coming back this weekend (4/16/10) after a more than 10 year absence.

In the early 90’s, Freaknic brought Atlanta to a standstill.

Traffic tie-ups and showdowns with police led city leaders to force the party out of town.

Now organizers are trying to revive the college spring break event.

Wednesday Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed will talk with reporters about Freaknic.

Tuesday organizers met with police and vow to work with the city to keep things both safe and manageable.

Plans call for having Freaknic events at various nightclubs in different parts of the metro area.

Organizers said they’ll have plenty of private security on hand.

Community organizers have expressed concerns with traffic congestion that Freaknic may bring.

The mayor’s brief is set to begin at 11 a.m.
