“The rent is too damn high” political party [Yes it’s a real thing]

In New York’s gubernatorial race, Carl Paladino and Andrew Cuomo have been getting the most attention. But, at last night’s debate, another candidate stole the spotlight.

Jimmy McMillan, from the ‘Rent is too Damn High Party’ became the crowd-pleaser Monday night in Hempstead. The black gloved, 64-year old self-professed karate expert said he has an obvious singular agenda: lowering everyone’s rent.

On gay marriage, he’d “let a person marry a shoe…”

But McMillan, who pays about $18-hundred a month in rent in Brooklyn’s flatbush neighborhood, also said that more attention needs to be paid to the poor.

“I represent the rent is too damn high party. People are working 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week and some a third job. Women can’t afford to take care of their children… feed their children breakfast, lunch and dinner. My main job is to provide a roof over your head, food on your table and money in your pocket. this is politics as usual .. playing the silly game. it’s not gonna happen. The rent is too damn high movement represents people who can’t afford to pay their rent. They’re being laid off right now as I speak. They can’t eat breakfast, lunch or dinner.. listen.. a child’s stomach just growled… did you hear it.. you gotta listen like me.”
