Masquerading Around

Most women do not have the time to drop everything and go to a spa for the ultimate facial treatment. Thus, I recommend creating a homemade mask to rejuvenate your skin while you continue to cook dinner, fold laundry or work in the garden. Homemade masks are perfect for giving yourself the spa treatment without sacrificing the time or money. I recommend that you treat yourself to a “masquerade party” once a week to give your skin a healthy glow. Here are three masks for various skin types.

OILY SKIN

Ingredients: 1 banana, 1 tbsp of honey, 1 orange or lemon.

Prepare: Mix the banana and honey together, add a few drops of citrus juice, apply to face and neck and leave on for 15 minutes. Remove by dousing your face with warm water using your hands to remove the product. *

Why you should use this: Citrus juice is a natural astringent and banana creates a solid paste base to bind the ingredients. The honey will keep your skin moisturized and prevent your skin from drying out.

Quick tip: Parsley has been said to be effective in removing blackheads if you add to your facemask mixture.

DRY SKIN

Ingredients: Avocado, ½ cup of honey

Prepare: Remove skin and pit of Avocado and toss. Place avocado in a bowl and knead it. Add honey and stir. Apply to face and neck and leave on for 10 minutes. . Remove by dousing your face with warm water using your hands to remove the product.

Why you should use this: Avocado is naturally high in fat and with fat comes moisture. Adding honey prevents your skin from drying out.

Quick tip: Wash your face at night to eliminate the dirt accumulated that day. However, don’t wash your face in the morning but rather use baby shampoo to wash your eyes and mouth. Not washing your face twice a day will further help your skin from drying out.

COMBINATION SKIN

Ingredients: 2 tablespoons of rose water, 1 tablespoon of natural yogurt, 1 tablespoon of honey.

Prepare: Mix the rose water, yogurt and honey in a bowl. You have the option of crushing rose petals in the mixture as well. Apply to face and leave on for ten minutes. Remove by dousing your face with warm water and using your hands to remove he product.

Why you should do this: Rose water and petals are good for all skin types. It is especially good for people who have skin sensitivities.

Quick tip: You can always mix a facemask for oily skin and a face mask for dry skin and use them simultaneously on the various oily and dry areas of your skin.

*Please note that using a face cloth on your face can contaminate or irritate your face with its detergents.
