Disney’s First Black Princess and MultiRacial Prince. Your Thoughts??

Spotted on Roundup Russy’s Blog

Disney has created lovable female characters like Jasmine, Pocahontas, Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel, etc and now we will finally have an African American debutante.

In December of this year, the company is set to release ‘The Princess and the Frog,’ set in New Orleans and featuring Princess Tiana, voiced by actress Anika Noni Rose. Oprah Winfrey is voicing Eudora, Tiana’s mother.

Oddly enough, though, Princess Tiana is black; her prince is not!! Check out this trailer and the above pic. Let me know what you think!!

In case you didn’t notice, the film is set in New Orleans..
BTW have you checkout out our first episode of AJ: New Orleans> Click HERE to check it out.

  1. I am a parent of a son. I would support this Disney project just like any other…a cartoon…period! The same way I grew up watching the the Road Runner trick the Coyote into getting his head bashed in forty times in one episode is the same way I look at dude with the chin and swirl up do…it is a cartoon.

BTW…I have cousins who look like dude…that are Rattlers….for some this is not a stretch.

  2. As a parent…I don't think supporting this film will be like supporting racism..I just don't think it's that serious…and I am glad they decided to make a black princess…it's bout time…

But for real, Disney is ALWAYS putting out CRAZY stereotypes and values…(where do you think the whole..meet a man and he will sweep you off your feet and fix all your problems came from… — think about it..Mulan wasn't happy saving her country…until she also got the man…..I could go on and on but this theme is repeated in almost EVERY Disney movie where a prince/princess is involved..but that's a different subject/topic for another day….ya'll have no idea how much DAMAGE that probably does to young girls..)

    But I digress..

I think the LION KING was the best disney picture….as far as personal responsibility, etc..

So I'm not tripping on the hispanic prince — cause we should be open to dating for love..not for color (in my opinion)…BUT..I don't see why we can't have a black prince every once in a while…that would have been really nice.

  3. And then you'll never see a movie with a black prince…or a black princess ever again!

The executives at Disney will say..well..the blacks don't want to see black princess (based on the sales)…they would rather see the non-black princess…

I think we should support it…
