The First Lady Michelle Obama delivered the commencement address at the 2011 Spelman College graduation this weekend. She was awarded with an Honorary Doctorate along side Sisters Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad, Howard University Alumni, who received Honorary Doctorates in Fine Arts.

The first Lady was introduced by Spelman President, Dr. Beverly D. Tatum, and delivered a challenge to the young graduates.

“I want you to think about all those women who came before you,” the First Lady said. “They didn’t go around pointing fingers and making excuses. They focused on what they did have…their intellect, their courage, their determination, their passion.”
