Based on the memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert.
Pros: This is a beautiful movie visually. The locations are rich in color and feeling. Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem are always fun to watch and do a convincing job in their roles as always. Another Pro is that the great source material. It’s a true story that is worthy of telling with a great message.
Cons: The movie felt about 20 minutes too long. Also the transformation you want to see in the lead never really happened in a meaningful way.
Overall: Eat. Pray. Love. is probably worth seeing though I don’t think it warrants the theater experience. Many viewers complain about the lack of a “spiritual experience” viewing the movie which in itself is a sad commentary on society (it’s a movie people). I’d say check it out on a slow Sunday DVD rental when it comes out. Until pursue meditation yourself, and by all accounts the book is a good read.
