Are you microwaving your life?

Get Rich Quick! Get Slim Fast! Find Love Now! It seems as though patience, attention to detail and dedication to excellence have become dead virtues in today’s society. We want it all; pre-packaged and ready now. Is this microwave mentality creating the same outcome as microwaved food… appetizing superficially but unappealing at its core?

Microwaving Your Health. If you ask Alumni Wellness celebrity fitness trainer Scott Parker or Chris Fitness how to get slim fast, you won’t like the answer. Sorry couch potatoes… they don’t sell diet pills that may cause blindness, brain damage, heart defects and rectal leakage; magic shakes made from the waters of Lake Minnetonka; or questionable adult toys made to look like fitness equipment. Instead, these guys take you on a long arduous process of eating nutritionally beneficial diets and exercising regularly. I know right… crazy! Who knew that you could become fit and healthy by eating well prepared healthful food and dispelling toxins through exercise?

Microwaving your Wealth. Easy credit ripoffs… Good times! They say God protects fools and babies. Unfortunately the religious texts of most faiths denounce greed and deceptive financial gain. One of my favorites, due to its imagery, comes from Mark 10:25 “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” Most people mistake this verse as a demonizing of people who are financially fortunate. Actually, the entire chapter condemns greed, hoarding, defrauding and refusing to be charitable. As musician T.I. put it ” Unhappy with the riches cause your piss poor morally.” History teaches us that the idea of getting rich quick, hustling, or any other scheme to get large amounts of money without creating something that will enrich people’s lives usually leads to prison or a violent untimely death. Is obtaining a few shiny trinkets to impress others really worth creating your own personal hell?

Microwaving your Love. Everyone is looking for a perfect mate yet so few are trying to become one. There was an article in the Huffington Post early this week entitled, “Why you’re not Married” which brutally explains some of the things I tend to sugar coat in my posts, If you ask me, I’m ready and Would you date you?. As a friend of mine put it. “I need to be a queen to obtain a king.” This statement applies to the reverse. So you may want to ask yourself, “Am I who I attract?” *Hint… the answer is yes* If you don’t like the answer then grow and become someone better.

Heraclitus once said, “The only thing constant in life is change.” Regardless of your level of involvement, your life is constantly changing. You can be proactive and commit to positive changes, or be inactive and hope to win life’s lottery. Use your time wisely, trust your instincts, and be good to yourself and those around you. Going slow and steady wins the marathon of life.
